Earl Miller was born on September 17, 1934 in Arley. He began
his career in roofing with Myhand Roofing Company of Florida
in 1957 and with Ratliff Roofing of Cullman the same year.
He then relocated to Huntsville in 1960 to work for Vulcan
Heating and Roofing where he injured his leg and was forced
to quit roofing while employed by Forbes Piano Company in
Birmingham from 1961-1964. He then entered the roofing profession
with the Standard Roofing Company from 1964-1968 and became
the Superintendent of the New Orleans branch.
During the latter part of 1968 he moved back
to Jasper and opened his own business out of his home and
operated as Earl Miller Roofing Contractor for the next 16
years.
Finally, on Feb. 28, 1984 Earl Miller expanded
his business and started Miller Roofing, Inc. His first office
was a shed next to a chicken house and today the facilities
include office space, warehouse and a full-service sheet metal
shop located on Old Parrish Highway in Jasper. The business
has grown to 50 full-time employees and a fleet of 25 vehicles
including a tractor trailer, boom truck, 4 box beds and 1
flat bed.
Barrett Roofing Contractor (now known as
Celotex Corporation) was the first company to warrant Earl
Miller as an approved roofing contractor in 1969. This means
that he has been an approved contractor in the state of Alabama
longer than anyone else. |
Over the years,
he has been approved as applicators of products by Tamko,
Elk, GAF, Koppers, Owens Corning, Firestone, Duralast and
Sarnafil.

This year Miller Roofing, Inc. was presented
the Firestone Building Products "Partnership In Quality
Award" which is presented to approved Firestone applicators
for their low cost and low return on warranted roofs. The
award was presented with the following statement.
"This award and the outstanding
roof performance that earned your company this award testify
to your commitment to long term roofing quality and your contribution
to improving the overall quality image of the entire roofing
industry. To commemorate |
this award,
Firestone is pleased to provide you with this plaque. We hope
it will be displayed proudly in your office and we hope that
everyone in your office will see this award as a true recognition
of your company's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction."
Miller Roofing, Inc. does Firestone Building
Products repair work across the nation (which includes only
commercial buildings).
In the early 1970's, a friend of Earl Miller
designed the artwork of 'hands holding out the weather' and
it has become a symbol of quality for the company. The design
is painted on the fleet of red vehicles and has become a familiar
sign of quality work throughout the nation.
Miller Roofing, Inc. will continue the quality
of service and work that Earl Miller has established during
his career through the continuing efforts of his descendants.
On Sept. 30, 1996 Earl Miller retired but will remain CEO
of the company. Steve Miller has now become the President
and Manager of Miller Roofing, Inc. with Joyce Miller as Vice
President.
"We want to thank our many customers
who have been a part of our 34-year success story. We are
still available to help with any roofing problem you have"
